For over 200 years Sargadelos has been producing porcelain in Galicia, Spain. Founded in the early 19th century by the Marquis of Sargadelos, porcelain production was revived and renewed in the mid-20th century. At its two locations in O Castro, Sada and Sargadelos, Crevo, intricately designed tableware, figurines and jewelry are still made using the traditional porcelain formula and decorated by hand.
'Rede' is a collaboration between Sargadelos and David Chipperfield. The design is inspired by local fishing nets as well as traditional Japanese ceramic forms, combining them with Sargadelos' expertise in relief tableware.
The tactile net pattern extends across the shapes of the ceramic pieces, accentuating both their surface and their overall form. The pattern adapts to the volumes to which it is applied, tightening and stretching in the widest areas while contracting in the narrower ones.
