Wind chimes are cherished throughout Japan – their gentle sound is said to bring lightness and a sense of calm. The ‘Drop’ wind chime, designed by Makoto Koizumi and crafted by the metal workshop NOUSAKU, offers a contemporary interpretation of this tradition. The small brass bell is cast in sand molds and finished by hand. It produces an exceptionally pure, clear tone – delicate, meditative, yet precise.
Founded in 1916 in Takaoka, Japan, NOUSAKU began by producing Buddhist ritual objects, tea utensils, and vases in brass and bronze. Today, the fourth-generation foundry continues to use traditional sand-casting techniques, placing the inherent qualities of each material at the center of its design process, and hand-finishing every piece to reveal the natural beauty of the metal.
