The dove, a symbol of love, gentleness and peace, takes on a new interpretation with the 'Dove Necklace' pendant. Elisabeth Schotte, whose pieces stem from the designer's fascination with ancient objects and jewelry, created the pendant as a tribute to the famous Hellenistic dove earrings that are now part of the Met Museum's collection.
In ancient Greek culture, birds, particularly doves and swans, were considered sacred and associated with the goddess Aphrodite and gifting jewelry with doves were considered as a token of love.
