These chopstick rests are inspired by traditional Japanese mizuhiki knots — a decorative knot-tying technique associated with good wishes, connection, and ceremonial occasions in Japan.
Made from 100% pure tin, the rests are initially flat. Before use, they can be gently bent by hand to create a raised form that securely supports the chopsticks. After the meal, they can easily be flattened again.
Tin has a long tradition in Japan as a material for everyday and ritual objects. It is valued for its bright silvery surface, corrosion resistance, and remarkable malleability. It is also considered hygienic, as it does not absorb odors or flavors.
The pieces are crafted in Takaoka, a city with over 400 years of metal casting tradition. Workshops such as Nousaku are renowned for their precise craftsmanship in tin and other metals, helping to carry this tradition forward in a contemporary form.
