Since the Edo period, the 'Andon' has been a familiar object to the Japanese. The Andon was used for indoor lighting and by merchants to identify their shops. Japanese designer Rina Ono has preserved the soft light produced by Washi paper with the 'Michiyuki-Tou' lantern, but reinterpreted them with a modern design. The small battery-powered LED lantern can be used in various ways, such as on the dinner table, as a reading light in the bedroom, or as a companion on a walk. Hayashi Kougei in Mino, Gifu, Japan, has been a pioneer in producing Washi products for interior decoration since 1949, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern functionality. Their factory, which handles production in-house, is one of the few in Japan dedicated to this craft. 'Michiyuki-Tou' Lantern, Noppo (tall) Design: Rina Ono for Hayashi Kougei Material: Washi paper, wood, wire Two batteries (size AA) included, lasting approximately 100 hours. Dimensions: Ø135 x H340mm Made in Japan.
