The 'Flax 5' lamp is part of the 'Flax Project' by the artist Christien Meindertsma for the Dutch manufacturer Thomas Eyck. For the project, Meindertsma worked with the natural raw material flax and the processing techniques traditional in the Netherlands. Flax used to be one of the most important textile fibers that were grown in Europe and processed into a wide variety of textiles and, of course, ropes. The sculptural lighting and cable collection of the 'Flax Project' was created in collaboration with the traditional rope manufacturer Touweslagerij Steenbergen in the Netherlands. The flax is harvested in Flevopolder, the fibers are spun into yarn and then braided, twisted and knotted.
