The 'Dio' earrings each balance two casts of ancient Greek coins, a bronze drachm from 323-281 BC from the Kingdom of Thrace and a small hemiobol, 500-480 BC from Mylasa. The obverse sides are decorated with the helmeted head of Athena and a leaping lion. The reverse sides show the front part of a lion and a small scorpion. Athena was the goddess of wisdom, strategy and battle and the patroness of the arts and sciences - as guardian of knowledge, she also protected spinners, weavers and other craftsmen. She also breathed knowledge and wisdom into people.
The Berlin-based designer Elisabeth Schotte creates delicate, narrative pieces of timeless elegance. Found treasures and ancient stories inspire her modern jewelry, a series of new talismans and modern ex-voto.
